Sample Day Trips/Itineraries
Day 1 - Issigeac and Biron
- Relaxed breakfast at the farmhouse (Fonguilleres)
- Spend the morning shopping at the street market, located today in Issigeac
- Lunch on pate and the bread that you purchased fresh in Issigeac
- Afternoon drive past fields of sunflowers to Biron. Tour the castle (don't miss the torture chamber in the basement ... watch out for bats!) and walk the streets of Biron. Purchase a bottle of wine to be enjoyed later.
- Take a late afternoon nap by the pool back at Fonguilleres.
- Join the other guests at Fonguilleres for wine and cheese in the living room of the farmhouse.
- Enjoy dinner at a nearby restaurant. Don't forget the cafe liegeois for dessert.
Day 2 - Road Trip to Rocamadour
- Breakfast at Fonguilleres
- Leave mid-morning to drive the beautiful French countryside.
- Lunch across the canyon from Rocamadour. Enjoy the breath-taking views.
- Park at the bottom of the road into the city.
- Spend the afternoon walking through Rocamadour. Enjoy the shopping and more views from this side of the canyon. Be sure to see the Black Madonna. Congratulate yourself if you make it all the way up to the chateau at the summit.
- Make your way back to Fonguilleres where the group will enjoy a casual dinner before bedtime.
Day 3 - Monpazier and Monflanquin, and a return to Issigeac
- Watch the sunrise from your window at Fonguilleres. Take a long sigh ... you're in Southwest France!
- Take a morning walk into Villereal, past local homes and fields. Find the small abandoned building near the road along the way. Take a different route back to Fonguilleres.
- Enjoy breakfast with the other guests before heading off to the street market, located today in Monpazier.
- After stopping back at Fonguilleres to relax for an hour, make your way to Monflanquin for the remainder of the morning and afternoon. Lunch, shopping, cafes, and beautiful views looking down onto the countryside await you there.
- Dinner this evening is a community affair! Your group will travel to the square in Issigeac where many local eateries (and creperies!) have set up booths, almost like what you would call a "Taste of Issigeac". Sample escargot, agneau (lamb), local wines and cheeses, and don't forget to go back for seconds (and thirds!) on the crepes.
- Roll yourself back to Fonguilleres for an evening channel surfing for programs on the television with English subtitles (often American progams with French voice-overs, a great way to watch CSI!)
Day 4 - Bergerac
- Sleep in and have a leisurely breakfast at Fonguilleres
- Leave mid-morning for Bergerac, enjoying the drive past the vineyards that you can see along the way.
- Spend the entire day exploring Bergerac, enjoying the cafes and shopping, walk along the banks of the Dordogne River, tasting many different wines and cheeses...
- Arrive back at Fonguilleres just in time to drift off into another lovely night of refreshing sleep.
